FAQ

What should I expect in the first counseling session?

The format of the first session varies depending on the type of counseling (child, teen, individual, couple), but generally I’m striving to hear you and understand the nature of the issues that brought you to counseling. It’s also a time for you to determine if I’m a good fit for you and/or your family.

Do you take insurance?

I’m considered an out-of-network provider and therefore am not on any insurance panels. Clients pay me the session fee and, if requested, I provide a superbill. A superbill is a document that you would attach to your claim form when filing for reimbursement from your own insurance company (if you choose to do so). Insurance coverage varies widely; I recommend that you review your benefits to determine your expected reimbursement.

Is counseling confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is arguably the highest value within the Counseling profession. Everything shared in sessions is confidential. When working with children and teens, confidentiality is balanced with involvement of parents. This is something I discuss in detail with parents and teens when starting therapy.

What does LPC or RPT stand for?

LPC stands for Licensed Professional Counselor. RPT stands for Registered Play Therapist. The RPT credential indicates I have special training and experience in utilizing play and expressive means in my work with children.

What are your fees?

My rate is $140 per session. I accept all major forms of payment, including all credit card types (HSAs included).

How long does counseling take?

The answer really depends on the issue(s) that brings you in to counseling. Some clients will feel resolution in a few months, whereas others elect to stay in counseling for months and even years to treat long-standing issues. I encourage clients to talk to me about their concerns of the pacing of therapy as we go along so we can make adjustments along the way.

How long is a counseling session?

Talk therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length. Play therapy sessions are 45 minutes.
