About Play Therapy and Child Counseling

Parenthood is one of the most challenging jobs in the world. As parents we want to protect our children from harm and also, as they grow, empower them to grow in independence. The decision to pursue counseling for a child is complicated. How do you know if your child will outgrow the challenges they may be having with time, or if it’s something that needs professional help?

As a trained child therapist (and the parent of two young children), I want to help you on the journey of helping your child grow and develop. In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I am also a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), which means I have extensive training and supervision in utilizing play and expressive modalities to help children grow and heal. You can read more about play therapy here.

Play therapy can help children and families with issues such as:

  • Anxiety and worry

  • Depression and grief

  • Acting out behavior and impulse control problems

  • Loss of a parent or loved one
